‘Perfect Couples’ Is Growing On Me

Perfect Couples premiered January 20th on NBC, but it took me two episodes to fall in like.  The pilot didn’t tickle my funny bone, but I kind of dug the cast (and started to develop a minor crush on Ali Larter‘s husband, Hayes Macarthur).  After watching Thursday’s episode, I’m hooked for these reasons: the writing is good, the acting is improving and, well, Hayes Macarthur.

We have Vance and Amy, who are painful to watch.  But Vance is dumb and funny and I expect his performances to become sharper as the season wears on.

Then we have Leigh and Rex, a couple no one wants to be around.  Ever.  They’re super-WASPy and hard to tolerate, even through a television set.  Rex played college football, and judging by the amount of wine he’s already consumed these past two episodes, Rex will eventually snap.

Dave and Julia are that couple everyone else wants to be like.  They kind of make me sick.

Perfect Couples airs Thursdays at 8:30 on NBC.
