The InBetweeners Make-A Me Laugh

Once upon a fine dinner one Friday night, Abby advised me to watch a show on BBC America.  She claimed The Inbetweeners was a shining example of British comedy.  Abby was right.  I watched my first episode On Demand yesterday and found myself in fits of giggles by the time the half hour was up.

“The Inbetweeners is a painfully intimate look at the cringe inducing humiliations of teenage life. Will MacKenzie’s school year is off to rather bad beginnings. For starters, his father has left his mother and he’s found himself transplanted from a posh private school to a public school in a suburb of London. His stint in private school did a good job of prepping him for the world—he’s smart, confident, well-read, quick-witted and outspoken. Unfortunately, none of those skills are helping him, in fact, they are making it more difficult for him to connect with the other students and faculty. The harder Will tries to fit in, the more mess he makes of things.

Lucky for Will, Simon is forced to show him around the new school. As a result, Will finds himself palling around with Simon and his two friends, Jay and Neil. The four of them often succumb to terrible advice, poor decision making and very, very bad ideas that tend to make situations much worse. Together, they attempt to make it through the trials of being awkward teenagers neither cool, nor credible in middle-class suburbia.”

The show was created by the same people behind Flight Of The Concordes.  Halie-you need to watch this show.

The best part of all this is that Simon Bird went to high school with me (well, for one year).  Some friends of mine were tight with Bird during his stateside stay and confirm that his comedic timing is not an act.  The kid is funny as hell, and his art imitates life.  Well, it’s official.  WHS is a hotbed for talent.

The InBetweeners airs every Wednesday at 9:30pm on BBC America.
