American Idol Is Baaaaack

I was never one to catch every episode of American Idol, but with news of Ellen DeGeneres joining the firing squad, I said “OK, let’s do this.” Last night’s premiere episode featured guest judge Victoria Beckham (the announcement was made in September, and first auditions were held in August). The first stop on the AI talent tour: Boston, MA. Home of Team Brenda and a whole lotta talentless locals. There were a lot of out-of-towners who walked away with a golden ticket. One masshole with a chinstrap (the actor aboard “Codzilla”) did walk away with a shiny pass to Hollywood, but the tart from Billerica was told to go back home, leggings and all.

As I watched last night, I recalled reading about auditions at Gillette Stadium. However, as my friends from Celeb Sisters pointed out, Kara, Randy, Simon and Posh were high atop what appeared to be the Bay Towers in Boston proper. We’re a little confused. One of the celebutantes commented:

“So, the auditions were at Foxboro if I’m remembering correctly (let me know if I’m wrong). How were they seen on the water at the Seaport, and why were all potential contestants filmed walking out into Faneuil??”

You’re not wrong, amiga. I don’t know why we’re showing skyscrapers when we should be seeing Route One. But Seacrest did look like a cupcake against the backdrop of our fine “town.”

Another comment I loved came from my hair stylist, Janessa (the girl is a whiz with long hair, my friends. If you live in NYC, you should seriously consider paying her a visit).

“Did you like when the zitty long-haired blonde kid blew on the flower and it just landed on the ground in front of him? Poor guy..”

Notes From The Edge:
-The Portuguese girl made me cry with her old/sick grandmother story. I just kept sniffling and whispering, “I hope you win. I hope you win.”
-The angry creep from Boston bored me. Bad actors are a dime a dozen in Boston. NEXT!
-I love Posh Spice now more than ever. Flawless skin, prettiest accent. Despite her emaciated appearance, she seems like a pleasant old gal.
-Love Simon. Can’t get enough.
-The kid with the Janet Jackson hair and the beard made me giggle.
-The chick with the short red hair who studies Japanese anime was a big disappointment. So much shouting!
-The first girl to audition (from Somerville), was a reminder that the American Idol video game isn’t real.

What was your favorite Idol moment from last night?
