New Shows to Nourish Your DVR

Ahoy!  Whilst on vacay, I spied a few new shows on the horizon, and a new season full of episodes to toast your tumbler to.

Giuliana And Bill-why are smug marrieds Giuliana and Bill Rancic getting a reality show?   She does a great job co-hosting E! News Daily, so…why?   I just don’t love the idea because it seems a bit tired. The “let’s follow quasi celebs around with a camera” has been done before and I’m not sure I’m 100% interested in the daily what-have-yous of Guiliana and Bill.   Although producers must know something we don’t in order to want to film them.  They could be a complete train wreck behind closed doors (which, technically, are now wiiiiiiiide open).   But beware, fair maiden and her Apprentice fellow: reality tv is notorious for putting couples on the fast-track to divorce land.  I’m nosy, so I’ll watch.

More To Love-The creator of The Bachelor/Bachelorette is taking the formula and adding, um, more?  I don’t know.  I don’t want to say something here that might offend the contestants. I know weight is a big issue and the discrimination these women have endured cuts deeply into their self-esteem.  So I give them two jazz hands for having the balls to go on television in the name of love, and perhaps a little respect?  Granted the odds for Bachelor/Bachelorette relationship survival are against them, but it’s a great opportunity to stick it to the skinny girls who are too crankers from a steady diet of water and non-starchy vegetables. Note-since this series will air on Fox, I’m concerned that it had a tinge of trashiness to it.  Their reality shows haven’t exactly been quality programming.  Who remembers The Moment Of Truth?  That s*it was just plain wrong.

Addicted To Beauty- This doozie of a reality series makes you really wonder, “how much is too much?”   The owner of the medi-span in Addicted To Beauty looks like that chic who’s had about 75 face-lifts.  Lady, you look like a duck!  The series explores the world of beauty enhancement while fauxness abounds.

Mad Men-Roll out that 4 o’clock scotch cart, dear boy.   Mad Men is back for its third season August 16th.  Dreamboat Don Draper (Jon Hamm) and his magical band of dapper men are back for another (several) rounds of cocktails at noon and smoking breaks every minute, on the minute.  Nothing spells concentration like a Manhattan and a pack of Lucky Strikes.  Mmmh, goes down smooth.   If you don’t watch this show, you need to start. It’s that good.
